In 1993, Corky Arthur, a member of Tuskawilla United Methodist Church in Casselberry, Florida, recognized a growing need to support people in the community who were struggling with hunger. Together with his family, neighbors and close friends from his church, he began preparing meals and bringing food directly to places where the homeless gathered. As the ministry grew, Corky established Tuskawilla Shepherds, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to help secure the financial support needed to continue serving those in need.
After Corky’s passing, his family and church community worked together to carry on his mission. Today, his grandson‑in‑law, Chris Lilly, serves as president of Tuskawilla Shepherds. While different family members have contributed at various times over the years, the ministry continues to be supported by a dedicated group of church volunteers, along with Corky’s children and several grandchildren and great‑grandchildren who remain involved.
For the past decade, Tuskawilla Shepherds has focused its efforts on addressing food insecurity among children in Seminole County. The organization currently supports ten elementary school food pantries, ensuring that students in need have food to take home for the weekend so they don’t go hungry when school meals aren’t available.
